Grindr Celebrates Historic NY Pride

Posted on June 30, 2011 by Grindr Team

Grindr was proud to partner with New York’s own Heritage of Pride this year to celebrate what will be remembered as a historic weekend in both New York and the GLBTQ community’s history. Being able to be a part of Pride the same weekend as the passage of marriage equality in New York on the 42nd anniversary of the Stonewall Riots was a true honor. We had a blast supplying Grindr dancers and cocktail waiters to the NYC Pride/Rafferty Mazur Events VIP Rooftop Party where many of our valued users came to dance the night away against the backdrop of a New York City skyline sunset. YouTube sensations Jessica & Hunter were on hand to hilariously host the underwear contest and entertain the crowd.

After Sunday’s momentous parade where we could feel the electric vibe of the crowd as a result of Friday night’s victory, our CEO Joel Simkhai, Creative Director Scott Lewallen, VP of Marketing Serge Gojkovich and Promotions Assistant Joey Hernandez joined revelers at the annual Pier Dance where body-painted Grindr dancers and greeters danced until a spectacular firework show lit up the sky over the Hudson River. The crowd and the evening were truly gorgeous. As the old adage goes: “It’s up to you, New York, New York” and we truly rocked Pride together this year!

New York Marriage Equality Victory

Posted on June 24, 2011 by Grindr Team

Grindr would like to take this opportunity to congratulate New Yorkers on being victorious in their battle for equal marriage rights. The New York Senate has made history tonight in making New York the largest state in the union with legalized same-sex marriage and the first Republican-run state senate in history to pass such a bill. We are indebted to them for that fact, especially to those senators who were open-minded enough to be swayed from either a negative or on-the-fence vote. Please take the time to thank the senators who voted “yay” in the coming days.

As we go into New York Pride weekend and celebrate the 42nd anniversary of the Stonewall Riots which sparked the modern gay rights movement in NY’s West Village, we pause with gratitude to have been able to have had a voice in this fight. We want to thank you for the countless users who clicked through our broadcast messages in the past weeks to contact Albany and helped make the voice of the GLBT community a veritable roar that they were not able to ignore. We take our responsibility to this community very seriously and are proud to have helped mobilize users through our geo-targeted messages. Wherever you are in the world this weekend, we will all be celebrating in spirit together in New York to mark this momentous occasion.

Action Call: Marriage Equality in New York

Posted on June 13, 2011 by Grindr Team

New Yorkers: This is our last chance this legislative year to make same-sex marriage a reality in New York as Governor Andrew Cuomo has called for a vote by week’s end. A victory in New York would make the Empire State the largest in the country allowing same-sex marriages. Last year’s defeat was by a narrow margin and due mostly to the unified Republican opposition as well as some shocking Democratic deflections.

Currently, undecided Republican senators Roy J. McDonald (518-455-2381), Greg Ball (518-455-3111), Stephen M. Saland (518-455-2411) and Kemp Hannon (518-455-2200) who voted “no” last year as well as Democratic Senator Ruben Diaz of the Bronx (518-455-2511) must be called collectively by us as a community to sway their indecision to in favor by the end of this week.

Please call your senator to voice your support for marriage equality. You can find out which senator represents your constituency by clicking here.
