Delete Your Grindr Profile

If you would like us to permanently delete your Grindr profile:

Please Note:The steps to delete a duplicate profile are different. If you have a duplicate profile see this article: Duplicate Profiles - what to do if you have a duplicate profile.

Sign In to our support page,
Click the Contact Us tab.
Select Delete Non-Duplicate Grindr Profile
Advise your Support Code if you have not deleted Grindr yet
Advise your Device ID if you have already deleted Grindr

**Note**Due to the high number of e-mails we receive on a daily basis, it may take some time before we can respond to your request to delete your profile. In the mean time, you can follow the steps below to manually clear your profile. Once we've permanently deleted your profile, you will receive a confirmation e-mail.

Clear Profile Image:

Launch Grindr
Tap Menu
Tap Edit Profile
Tap Photo Thumbnail
Select 'Take Photo' (*Note* - For iPod Touch and iPad users that don't have a camera, upload a photo of a blank/black screen.)
Take a photo with your device laying on a flat surface with the camera lens covered.
Upload the photo.

Remove Profile Details.

Launch Grindr
Tap Menu
Edit Profile.
Tap the Edit button next to each section
- About: Clear out all text entered and tap Save.
- Relationship: Select Do Not Show and tap Save.
- Looking For: Select Do Not Show and tap Save.
- Ethnicity: Select Do Not Show and tap Save.
- Age: Select Do Not Show and tap Save.
- Height: Select Do Not Show and tap Save.
- Weight: Select Do Not Show and tap Save.
- Social Link: Select Do Not show and tap Save.
Turn show distance to 'Off'
Tap Done.

Removing All Favorites.

Launch Grindr
Click on each favorite's thumbnail to review their profile.
Tap the Yellow Star until it turns gray.
Tap Back and access each profile and follow the previous steps.

Unblocking Everyone:

Launch Grindr
Tap Menu
Tap Settings
Tap General
Tap UnBlock Everyone
Confirm.

Clear Chats:

Launch Grindr
Tap Menu
Tap Settings
Tap General
Tap Clear All Chats
Confirm.

Deleting the App:

From your device's home screen, tap and hold the Grindr Icon until the icons start shaking back and forth.
Tap the X on the Grindr Icon.
Tap Delete to confirm you want to delete the application.

For Android Devices:

Clear Profile Image:
1. Launch Grindr
2. Go to “Edit Profile”
3. Tap to Edit photo
4. Tap on “Camera”
5. Take a black photo (All black or all white)
6. Save photo to profile
Remove Profile Details:
1. Launch Grindr
2. Go to “Edit Profile”
  - Display name: Click “Edit”, delete all entered text > click “OK”
  - Headline: Click “Edit”, delete all entered text > click “OK”
  - About: Click “Edit”, delete all entered text > click “OK”
  - Age: Click “Edit”, delete all entered text > click “OK”
  - Height: click “Edit”, click on “Do not Show” > click “OK”
  - Weight: “Edit”, delete all entered text > click “OK”
  - Ethnicity: click “Edit”, click on “Do not show” > click “OK”
  - Relationship Status: click “Edit”, click on “Do not show” > click “OK”
  - Looking For: Click “Edit”, uncheck all options, click “Do Not Show”
  - Social Link: Click “Edit”, deleted entered text > click “OK”
  - Age Filters: Click “Edit”, delete entered text for Min and Max age > click “OK”
Removing all Favorites:
1. Launch Grindr
2. Click on a favorite thumbnail to view the profile.
3. Click on star to remove favorite
4. Repeat steps 2-3 until all favorites are removed as desired.
Unblock Everyone:
1. Launch Grindr
2. Click on Menu
3. Click on “Settings”
4. Click on “General”
5. Click on “Unblock Everyone”
Clear Chats:
1. Launch Grindr
2. Click on Menu
3. Click on “Settings”
4. Click on “General”
5. Click on “Clear All Chats”
Reset Default Grindr Settings:
1. From Android Settings
2. Go to “Applications”
3. Go to “Manage Applications”
4. Go to “Grindr”
5. Click on “Clear Data”
6. Click on “Clear Cache”
7. Click on “Force Stop”
Deleting the App:
1. Access your Device's Settings App
2. Go to “Applications”
3. Go To “Manage Applications”
4. Go to “Grindr”
5. Click on “Uninstall”
6. Click “ok”
7. Click “ok”

For Blackberry Devices:

Clear Profile Image:
1. Launch the Camera app
2. Take a black photo (cover the lens of the camera)
3. Save the photo
4. Launch Grindr Xtra
5. Press the menu button
6. Select “Edit Profile”
7. Click on profile image thumbnail
8. Select the black photo you took earlier
9. Save photo to profile
Remove Profile Details:
1. Launch Grindr Xtra
2. Press the menu button
3. Select “Edit Profile”
  - Display name: delete all entered text
  - Headline: delete all entered text
  - About: delete all entered text
  - Age: delete all entered text
  - Height: select “Do not Show”
  - Weight: delete all entered text
  - Ethnicity: select on “Do not show”
  - Facebook URL: delete all entered text
  - Age Filters: delete entered text for Min and Max age
4. Press the menu button
5. Select “Save”
Removing all Favorites:
1. Launch Grindr Xtra
2. Click on a favorite thumbnail to view the profile.
3. Press the “F” button on the keyboard to remove user as favorite.
4. Repeat steps 2-3 until all favorites are removed as desired.
Unblock Everyone:
1. Launch Grindr Xtra
2. Press the menu button
3. Select Edit Profile
4. Press the menu button
5. Select “Unblock All”
Clear Chats:
1. Launch Grindr Xtra
2. Press the menu button
3. Select Edit Profile
4. Press the menu button
5. Select “Clear All Chats”
Deleting the App:
1. From your home screen, press the Menu Button
2. Select Options
3. Select Advances Options
4. Select Applications.
5. Select Grindr
6. Click on Delete
7. Confirm you want to delete.

Apple recently announced iOS 5, and made an early release available to developers. It is important to note, this release is intended only for developers for development purposes.

At this time our apps are NOT compatible with iOS 5; our developers are aware of this, and are looking in to the necessary changes for iOS 5 compatibility. We are also looking in to the new features and improvements this update will allow us to bring.

We will release an iOS 5 compatible version as soon as possible, we will announce when it becomes available.

Grindr Is Crashing Or Closing During Use

If Grindr is Crashing (or closing), it could be one of a couple things:

For Android Devices, scroll down to here.

For BlackBerry Devices, scroll down to here.

If Grindr is crashing as it Signs On, that is while you see one or two spinners in the top left corner, that issue was resolved with version 1.1. Please verify you have updated to the latest version.

If Grindr is crashing during use - after it successfully signs on - we need a copy of your Crash Logs in order to determine why this is happening to you.

Please follow the below Steps:

Sign In to our support site.

Once you are logged in you will be able to continue
Click the Contact Us tab.
Select Grindr Is Crashing
Advise whether you are using Grindr or Grindr Xtra
Advise what version number you are using
Advise your Support Code or Device ID
Answer the remaining questions
Attach the ZIP your Crash Reports or Attach the text file of your event log

Instructions for Apple Devices:

Here's how to find your Version Number:

Open Grindr or Grindr Xtra;
Touch Menu in the top right corner;
Touch Settings at the bottom;
Touch About at the bottom.

The version will be in the middle of the screen.

If you can not open Grindr, you can find your version number in iTunes:

On your computer, open iTunes;
In the left column, under Library, click once on the word Applications;
In the main iTunes window, find the Grindr or Grindr Xtra icon, and click once on it;
On a Mac: Touch Command+I to display the information window.
On a PC, Right Click, then click Properties.

On the Summary tab you will see the version number.

To obtain your Event Logs via your BlackBerry follow these steps :

On the Home screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, hold down the Alt key and type LGLG. The Event Log screen opens.
Display the menu and select Copy Day's Contents.
Paste the contents into the body of an email message and send the email message to yourself.
Copy the contents of that email into a text file (eg: NotePad or TextEdit)
Attach that file to your Ticket or email

To obtain your Event Logs via your Windows computer follow these steps :

Connect the BlackBerry smartphone to the computer using a USB cable.
Open the run prompt by pressing the Windows Button and R at the same time.
Open command prompt by typing 'cmd' in the run field and press enter.
In command prompt type 'cd c:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader' and press enter or if you are using 64-bit Windows type 'cd c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader' and press enter.
Then type 'Loader.exe /eventlog c:\log.txt'
Now go to My Computer> C:\ and you should see a file named 'log.txt'. (If you do not see a log file in your C drive please check 'c:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Apploader'. on certain systems the file will save in that directory)
Attach that file to your Ticket or email

Can I delete my Grindr picture?
It is currently not possible to delete your Grindr photo. However, you can change it to be all black: Take a picture with the camera covered, then follow the steps below to change your Grindr photo to that picture.

How do I add or change the picture in my Grindr profile?
To add or change the picture on Apple devices:

Touch Menu > Edit Profile.
Touch the thumbnail picture box in the top left corner, it has text that says "Tap to edit"
From there you can choose an existing photo from your Apple device's photo library, or you can take a new photo.
Crop your photo, Confirm.
Crop the thumbnail, Confirm.
Press 'Done' when you've returned to the "Edit Profile" Screen

To send a picture to a user in chat on an Android device:

Touch the Menu key on your device.
Touch Send Photo
From there you can choose an existing photo from your iPhone or iPod touch photo library, or you can take a new photo.

To send a picture to a user in chat on a BlackBerry:

Press the menu button while in the chat window
Click on either Send Photo to send an exisiing ohone from you library or press Take Photo to send a new photo.

Can I have multiple or private pictures?
At this time you can only store one picture in your profile. You can send pictures to other users by following the steps above.

A message will display advising your Support Code, it is four lowercase alpha/numeric characters.

How to find your Device ID (UDID):

Open iTunes on your computer and connect your device using the USB cable.

If Your Profile Has Been Reviewed, Moderated, Cropped, or Banned

If you have been notified that your profile has been banned or moderated, or if you have had your profile's picture or text removed:

If you are not signed in to our Support Center, please do by clicking sign in in top right corner.
Click the Contact Us tab
Select Review Team Inquiry
Provide your Device ID from the ban or moderation message
Advise your Support Code, Device ID/Device IMEI or MEID/Blackberry Pin if you don't have the message any longer

Note:Apple users can take a screen capture of the ban message, and attach it to the ticket or just copy your device ID.

If you would prefer to not create a Support account, you may email the above information to review@grindr.com.

Be aware, if your profile was banned, it will remain banned until you contact the Review Team, and have received a response from them. Users who have repeatedly violated our Terms Of Service or Profile Guidelines may be permanently banned.

Our Review Team works normal business hours, and answers inquiries in the order they are received. They try to answer all inquiries within one business day; however, depending on the day of the week, the time of the day, and the number of inquiries in the queue before yours, there may be a delay in receiving a response.

Your profile may have been reviewed, moderated, cropped, or banned for the picture, for the text, or both. While waiting for us to respond to your inquiry, we strongly recommend you review Grindr's Profile Guidelines and Terms Of Service:

To take a screen capture:

Press and hold your Home button;

How Does Blocking Work

When you block an other user, or an other user blocks you:

You both are removed from the other's Grindr cascade immediately. Neither guy will be seen in the other guy's cascade, even if previously in a conversation, or marked as a favorite.

To block a guy on an Apple or Android Device:

Open Grindr
Touch the thumbnail picture of his profile
Touch the Block icon

To block a guy on a BlackBerry:

Open Grindr
Click the thumbnail picture of his profile
Click on the menu button
Click on Block

You will be returned to the Grindr cascade.

At this time, it is not possible to unblock only one user. However, you can unblock all guys:

To unblock all guys on an Apple Device:

Open Grindr
Tap Menu
Tap Settings
Tap General
Tap Unblock Everyone
Confirm

To unblock all guys on an Android device:

Open Grindr
Press the menu button
Tap Settings.
Tap General.
Click Unblock Everyone
Click Unblock Everyone again in the prompt
Save your Profile

To unblock all guys on a BlackBerry:

Open Grindr
Press the menu button
Click on Edit Profile
Press the menu button
Click Unblock All
Click Unblock All again in the prompt
Save your Profile

We currently allow you to block 10 users a day on Grindr for iOS and Android. Grindr Xtra has no limit. However, if your list gets very large it will slow down Grindr's loading and refreshing. If your list gets too large, Grindr will not be able to finish loading nearby guys before it times out.

We plan to add additional user management and filtering features in the future.

What Guys Are Shown In My Grindr Cascade

What guys are shown in my Grindr cascade?

Grindr displays your thumbnail picture, followed by the thumbnail pictures of the guys you have marked as a favorite, and then the thumbnail pictures of other guys.

Each of those groups is sorted in distance order. The thumbnail closest to yours, is that of the guy closest in distance. The thumbnail furthest from yours, is that of the guy furthest in distance. Grindr initially displays guys close to you, if the cascade is not filled, then it looks further away, and keeps looking further, until your cascade is filled.

Grindr initially displays your favorites, and a number of other guys. You can ask Grindr to display more guys, by touching the Load More Guys button. That will refresh your cascade, and add more guys. You can keep doing that, until your cascade reaches it's limit: For Grindr the limit is approximately 100 guys, for Grindr Xtra the limit is approximately 200 guys, both numbers are in addition to your favorites.

Grindr displays the thumbnails of guys who:

Are marked as a favorite - with a yellow star;
Have sent you a message, and you have not read it - with a badge, and a blue border;
Have sent you a message, and you have read in the last 6 hours - with a blue border;
Are online now, or have been online in the last 10 minutes - with a green dot;
Have been online within an hour, and have not touched Sign Off
(prior to 21 December 2009, it was 2 hours);

If you touch Sign Off, or if it's been longer than an hour since you have had Grindr open, you may not appear on other guys' cascades.

The best way to ensure a guy stays on your cascade, is to mark him as a favorite:

Touch his thumbnail picture;
Touch the Star icon:
Yellow indicates he is a favorite
Grey indicates he is not a favorite

If you set a filter - such as Age Filter: 25-35 only, Grindr will only display guys who match your filter, unless you have marked him as a favorite.

If you block a guy, or he blocks you, neither of you will display in the other's cascade, until the guy who did the block, unblocks.

Syncing Your Profile(Apple devices only.)

Syncing Your Profile

Please read the below information before syncing your device.

Grindr should only be synced with another Grindr profile, Grindr Xtra should only be synced with a Grindr Xtra profile. Grindr should *NEVER* be synced to a Grindr Xtra profile on any device.
Syncing is only intended for when a user has multiple different devices they want to use one Grindr profile on, such as an iPod and an iPhone, an iPad and an iPhone, or an iPad and an iPod.
Do not sync a Grindr profile that was on a device you plan on discarding, returning, swapping out, or selling.
If you plan on getting a new/upgraded device and will not be keeping your previous device, you will want to apply a back-up/restore and use the "Transfer" feature when prompted. Do *NOT* use the Sync Profile feature to move the profile.

If you already Synced your profile to an additional device, and it is not working correctly, or if you want to Sync to an additional device, you will need to:

Delete Grindr from your original device
Be aware: Deleting Grindr from your device will delete all Chat History, including chat messages, pictures, and locations. If you want these saved please take screen captures. Do not do a BackUp and Restore, as this will restore bad data.
- Touch the Grindr icon until icons start to shake;
- Touch the delete symbol on the Grindr icon;
- Press the Home button;
- Sync to iTunes, and re-install Grindr.
Create a new Sync Code
- Open Grindr on your original device
- Touch Menu
- Touch Settings
- Touch Sync Profile
- Touch Send Profile
- Make note of new Sync Code
Delete Grindr from the additional or replacement device following the steps in #1 above
Receive new Sync Code
- Open Grindr on your additional device
- Touch Menu
- Touch Settings
- Touch Sync Profile
- Touch Receive Profile
- Enter Sync Code.
  Please Note: Make sure you are entering the sync code exactly as it was provided to you. Codes are case sensitive.
- Touch OK

If you are still experiencing issues with your profile and syncing, please send us a message to help@grindr.com with your sync code and your device ID of the primary device you are syncing from.

Here’s how to find your device ID:

Open iTunes on your computer and connect iPhone or iPod touch

Both profiles need to be running version 1.3.0 or later;
Open your original Grindr;
Touch Menu;
Touch Settings;
Touch Sync Profile;
Touch Send Profile;
Make note of your six character Sync Code - it is case sensitive;
Close Grindr;
Open your other Grindr;
Touch Menu;
Touch Settings;
Touch Sync Profile;
Touch Receive Profile;
Enter your Sync Code that was previously provided.
Touch OK.

Your Grindr messages will be sent to the last Grindr you signed in to, or the one you are currently signed in to.

Is Your Location Incorrect (Apple Devices)?

If Grindr is not showing guys in your current location:

Double check that you have Location Services enabled:

Open the Settings app
Touch Location Services
Touch ON

Grindr determines your location the same way the Maps app does. Your Apple device's location may need to be refreshed:

*NOTE* iPhone 4/OS4.0 USERS... Because OS4.0 now doesn't close apps, just runs them in the background, you'll need to follow steps 1-4. If you are not using an iPhone 4 or OS4.0 on your device, skip to the step 5.

Sign out of Grindr.
Double tap the home button.
Touch the Grindr icon until close symbol appears.
Touch close.
Open the Maps app
Touch the Locate icon in the left bottom corner and wait for it to finish updating your location.
Sign back into Grindr.

iPhones and iPads connecting by 3G or Edge determine your location from the built in GPS. iPhones and iPads connecting by Wi-Fi and the iPod touch determine your location from the Wi-Fi router or hotspots.

If the Maps app shows your correct location, then Grindr will display guys in your area. You may need to touch the Refresh icon in Grindr if your location or connection has recently changed.

Issues Launching Grindr.

If you’re having issues logging into your Grindr application, you may need to force close the application.

To Force Close Grindr On Apple Devices:

Double Tap The Home Button to bring up the Multitasking Bar.
Tap and Hold the Grindr Icon until all icons start shaking.
Tap the Red icon in the top right corner of the Grindr Icon.

To Force Close Grindr On Android Devices:

Open your Settings application.
Tap Applications.
Tap Manage Applications
Tap “Grindr” >
Tap Force Close
Launch your Grindr again to see if it works.

If you are still not able to access your Grindr you may have to clear your Grindr cache.

To Clear Grindr Cache:

Open your Settings application.
Tap Applications.
Tap Manage Applications
Tap “Grindr” >
Tap Clear Cache.
Tap Force Close.
Open Grindr and test.

You may need to try these steps repeatedly before being able to log back into Grindr.

To obtain your Support Code: In the Cascade touch your own thumbnail picture for 5-10 seconds, after you lift your finger, a message will display, advising of your Support Code.

Your Support Code is four lowercase alpha/numeric characters.

If you are not able to open Grindr, or you have deleted it, then we'll need your device's MEID.

To obtain your Android Device MEID.IMEI:

Open the Settings application.
Tap About Phone
Tap Status
Scroll down to where it says MEID/IMEI
Copy all alphanumeric characters exactly as they appear on your Android Device.

Switching From Grindr To Grindr Xtra

If you are switching between Grindr and Grindr Xtra, the information below should be helpful.

Grindr and Grindr Xtra are two separate apps, which means two separate profiles.

If you have recently installed Grindr Xtra for the first time on your device, your favorites and blocks were copied over from your Grindr profile. However, the rest of your Profile (including Name, Headline, About, Stats, Picture, Chat History) is not copied over.

We can delete your old profile for you, please:

Sign In to the support page.
Click the Contact Us tab.
Select Delete Duplicate Profile
Provide your Support Code
Advise which profile you want deleted, Grindr or Grindr Xtra.

To obtain your Support Code: In the Grindr cascade, touch Menu > Settings > About > Support Code. A new window will pop up with your support code. Your support code is a 4 character, alpha-numeric code.

Protect Your Identity

Most people would not tell their name, phone number, email and other personal information to a complete stranger so be wary or posting this info on your profile. Protecting your identity is the best move you can make when chatting on Grindr. If you decide to take chatting one step further and call someone on the phone. You might also want a use a service like Google Voice or Line2 which allows you to give people a second number and allows you to block them easily.

Don't Believe Everything You See

A picture can't always be trusted; the person may have taken someone else's photo or found one somewhere. Also that photo they sent you may be five years old, heavily doctored up with a graphics program, from when they used to be thin or when they had hair, or of someone else altogether.

Don't rush into things

Do not be rushed, and do not rush the other person. Only share your location when you feel confortable, don't feel pressured if they already sent you theirs. Remeber Grindr only updates your location when the app is on and there is a setting to hide your distance from your profile. Only meet when you both are comfortable with each other. Also ask your friends - sometimes they are not blinded by the same rose-colored glasses you might be.

Don’t ignore your instincts. Your first instinct is usually the best one to go by. Don’t go against your feelings, listen to them. If your gut tells you that something is wrong, cut it short and get out of there. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

The below information should answer your question(s) regarding Push Notifications.

At this time Push Notifications are only available with Grindr Xtra.

To adjust your Push Notifications settings for Grindr Xtra:

Open the Settings app
Touch Notifications
Touch Grindr Xtra in the list below the ON | OFF slider
Use the individual sliders to indicate if you want to receive Sounds, Alerts, and/or Badges.

Sounds indicate whether you want to hear a sound when a Push comes in.

Alerts indicate whether you you want to see a preview message on your screen.

Badges indicate whether you want to see how many pushed messages you have in Grindr X(tra), the number appears over our icon.

Jailbroken Devices Unable To Access Some Features

We have received reports from users who have Jailbroken their device, they are are unable to receive Push Notifications or make In-App Purchases (including Grindr Xtra Subscriptions).

Please note, neither Grindr nor Apple supports Jailbroken devices. We recommend you contact the support team for the tool you used to Jailbreak.

Subscription Purchase Issue

If you receive this error:

This is not a Test User account

Please create a new account in the Sandbox environment

In order to make In-App Purchases, including buying a Grindr Subscription, follow these steps:

Uninstall Grindr Xtra
NOTE: This will delete your Chat messages, pictures, and locations. Your profile, Favorites, and Blocks will not be affected;
Open Cydia > Packages > Uninstall AppSync;
Power off, then back on your device;
Re-Install Grindr Xtra;
Open Settings App > Store > Sign Out
Sign In again

As long as you don't have AppSync installed in Cydia, you should be able to purchase Grindr Subscriptions

If you have other apps that use In-App Purchases, you can enable them as well, by installing them when you re-install Grindr Xtra.

Push Notifications Issue

There are Cydia apps that will re-enable Push Notifications on a jailbroken device, a couple examples are: PushFix and Push Doctor. If you are having issues using or downloading Grindr Android on an Android device, it may be because you're using a device that doesn't support Grindr.

Grindr Android is only currently available on medium and high density resolution devices that are running official/stock versions of Android OS 2.1 - 4.0.3.

At this time, the "Sync Profile" feature is ONLY available on Apple devices to sync profiles to and from other Apple devices.

Location Issues

The Grindr application uses the Android’s built in GPS to pinpoint your location. If your device is showing you as being somewhere else you will need to reset your location.

Refresh Your Location:

Close your Grindr completely by pressing the back arrow button
Launch your native “Maps” application
Tap the "Update Location" or the Compass button that updates your location.
**NOTE** Some Android devices use Google Maps, some use Bing, some use another Maps/Location Application. Make sure you are familiar with updating your location based on which application your Android uses.
Exit Maps application once location has been refreshed
Launch Grindr.
Notice the “Accuracy” bar to see the distance it gives; your location should have been updated at this point.
